A Pink "Heater," Victoria's Secret?

What's the deal with this whole picture. This is off a New York Times article about American's gun fascination. But a pink one, really? For one, it's really small, I wonder how far someone could take it. For two, is it really pink, if someone held me up with it I might chuckle. FOR THREE! did the person whose hands are in the picture shoot off her right index finger with this little pinky....
